Garden

Phase 1

Garden remains as is, 65+ raised beds constructed out of reclaimed fencing material and using a 4 zone micro watering system.  The wood chip walking paths will be maintained as the chips come from a waste source.

Phase 2

The garden will be mapped at each bed location with a sun mapper to determine the possible available light at each location over the course of a year.  This information will be used to determine the best plants for each area so as to determine the most efficient use of the area.

Phase 3

The garden will look similiar to the existing garden except constructed out of adobe bricks and with adobe brick walking paths. The garden will be designed for longest life and maximum sustainability.  The garden will consist of an underground reservoir, wick watering system, raised beds and constructed all out of adobe bricks.

The Reservoir will consist of several chambers constructed entirely out of adobe with proper water restiveness.  There will be supports to accommodate the walking path and raised beds above it. Reservoir will be designed so that it drains away from the house, which will be the entry location of the grey water that will partly supply it.

The garden above the reservoir will consist of custom crafted adobe tiles.  The tiles in the pathway will be strong and capable of being removed to access the reservoir below the beds – access will be from the side of the bed.  There will be no water chamber below the walking path.  The raised beds will be constructed to not be removed, but designed so that they can be easily deconstructed if needed.  The beds will have adobe tile bottoms and use soil medium for planting.  The bed tiles will have small holes in them that will accommodate wicks for watering the beds – holes will be designed to offer a range of watering options through quantity of holes used and wicking material.  In addition the holes will allow for a range of watering options within the bed by having more wicks in one area and less in another.
